Dr. Amanda M. Olsen attended Pacific University College of Optometry near Portland, Oregon after completing her Biology degree at the University of Regina. During her fourth year optometry school externships, she had many training opportunities including time in Colorado and North Dakota. Dr. Olsen was honoured to receive the William Feinbloom Low Vision Award at graduation, awarded to a student who demonstrates an aptitude in the clinical care of patients with low vision. During her time at Pacific, Dr. Olsen served as a liaison between students and faculty by serving as her class president as well as chapter president of the Canadian Association of Optometry Students. She also volunteered for numerous Special Olympic Vision Screenings and participated in a weekly elementary school reading program, encouraging literacy and fostering a love for reading at a young age.

Born and raised in Estevan, Saskatchewan, and having worked three summers as an optometric technician at South East Eyecare, Dr. Olsen is proud to provide eyecare in her hometown.  Dr. Olsen is happy to provide comprehensive eye care including primary care, contact lenses, refractive surgery co-management and ocular disease. She has a special interest in specialty contact lenses (including scleral lenses), myopia management and dry eye.

Dr. Olsen enjoys crocheting, puzzles, and spending time with her family and her husband, Travis Frank and their dog Claire. She is actively involved in the community through the Rotary Club of Estevan, where she recently served as the club President.  She is a Director for the Saskatchewan Association of Optometrists as well as the Optometry Examining Board of Canada.

Meet our Friendly Doctors and Staff

Dr. Sliva was born and raised in Glenavon (a small town located 1.5 hours north of Estevan) and did two years of Pre-Optometry at the University of Regina.  In 2005, she started her journey in optometry when she was accepted to the University of Waterloo School of Optometry and Vision Science (then the University of Waterloo School of Optometry).  She became an active member of the Canadian Association of Optometry Students (CAOS), even acting as President one year.  Knowing that she wanted to return to her home province to practice, she selected externship sites close to home in an effort to learn as much as possible about the people she would soon be providing eyecare.  Her education took her from Waterloo to Brandon and Winnipeg, and finally to Regina and Estevan.  She graduated on the Dean’s Honours List in 2009 and was awarded the RACH Memorial Award at the School of Optometry’s graduation awards.  In 2011, Dr. Sliva opened South East Eyecare and received the Ida Petterson Memorial Award for Outstanding Entrepreneur at the Estevan Women of Today Awards.  She was named the Saskatchewan Association of Optometrists “Optometrist of the Year” in 2020.

Dr. Sliva enjoys not only patient care, but patient education, as well.  She firmly believes that everyone benefits when patients are involved in their diagnosis and care plans, and actively strives to find new ways to provide information to patients to help them make informed eyecare decisions.  She has a special interest in myopia management and vision therapy, and began offering vision therapy for preschoolers, school-aged children, and adults in 2021.

Dr. Sliva is active with the Saskatchewan Association of Optometrists, acting as a Board of Examiner and a member of the Billing Committee.  She has seven beautiful children (who all know where the cookies are kept in the staff room) and a very supportive husband.  She enjoys crocheting, puzzles, and reading in her hammock at the lake.  She has two cats and a dog, 2/3 of which enjoy going for walks with her.
